Once you decide to follow the path of becoming an organic gardener or organic farmer you will need to familiarize yourself with all the organic gardening supplies available for you and your garden.
Such items as tools, organic fertilizers, soil testing kits, composting bins and equipment not to mention seeds and plants are just a few of the things you will need to ad to your organic gardening supply.
Tools come in all shapes and sizes from the small trowel or hand spade to the larger spades, shovels and pitch forks. Natural pest control is preferred to chemical pest control in any form of organic gardening and your local organic gardening supplier will be able to offer you various solutions such as beneficial insects that can be released when pest levels are low.
If however your experiencing a really bad outbreak of unwanted pests such as aphids or carrot flies it may be time to try using one of the many botanical insecticides available to you as a short term answer then release predator parasites to maintain control.
Just bear in mind that nothing in nature is immediate it takes time to develop a well balanced ecosystem in your organic garden. Most garden pests such as aphids will have it's equivalent predator these can be purchased from a garden supplier and released in your garden to control the infestation naturally rather than resorting to insecticides.
Lacewing eggs, praying mantis egg cases are also available to add to your organic gardening supply. Earth worms play a big part in organic gardening so if the soil in your particular garden does not have enough of these helpful creatures you may consider buying some.
One of the most popular worm for your compost pile are Red Wiggler Worm. Red wigglers swallow large amounts of organic material, as they feed and after digesting this they discard a worm casing. The worm casings are very rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium.
Producing great amounts of organic matter they can eat their own body weight each day under the right conditions. Red worms are very tolerant of variations in growing conditions and the good news for organic gardeners is they produce rapidly so once you have introduced some to your compost heap they should quickly get to work and speed up the decomposing cycle.

To be a successful Organic gardener you should learn from nature, take a walk in any forest or wooded area and observe how fallen branches leaves and a multitude of plant life forms decompose to create nutrients that are put back into the soil. Insects eat other insects, birds eat insects, and grubs. The whole system survives without any form of chemical intervention. keep this in mind when your planning your organic garden. |

At the start of each organic gardening year take some time to sharpen your tools. You will work much more efficiently with a sharp spade than with a dull one. Check the wheel or wheels on your wheelbarrow make sure they are not going to let you down when it's full of heavy soil or potting plants. |

If your plants are being eaten away by aphids, use a solution of mild washing up liquid and water in a clean plastic spray bottle. Give the bugs a liberal spraying, leave for a few minutes then spray off the dead aphids with clean tepid water. Repeat this every ten day's or so until you are aphid free. |
