Organic Gardening Supplies

Every gardener eventually succumbs to having to purchase some gardening supplies but do you need any specific organic gardening supplies to create your organic garden? Well there may be some supplies specific to organic gardening but for the most part the usual gardening supplies will be adequate for the job.

When your ready to start your organic composting you will definitely need a shovel and a gardening fork or pitch fork to aerate the compost. Another absolute necessary is a good pair of gloves to prevent blisters forming when you digging. If your going to be doing a Lot lot digging you should ad a spade to your organic gardening supplies.

A spade is different from a shovel in that a spade has a sharp edge for cutting through the hard earth and roots you may encounter whereas a shovel is usually blunt and slightly bigger to hold more of whatever you intend to shovel.

Soil needs air to keep it healthy and allow young plant roots to grow therefore adding a hoe to your supply list is a good idea. A hoe is used to break up the soil around plants without damaging them. It's also good for loosening stubborn weeds so you can pick them up roots and all. when weeding you should try to make sure you get all the weed root out or it will just grow back again before you know it.

One thing to try to avoid when gardening is putting too much stress on your back. Digging, lifting, weeding are all jobs that a gardener must do but if done carefully you should not suffer from backache. Your organic gardening supplies should include a good wheelbarrow. Choosing one of the plastic mould ed kind will probably last you longer than the kind with metal parts to them as these can be left out in all kinds of weather without suffering from rust and rot.

If you are prone to back problems buy yourself a back brace and don't be too proud to wear it. There is nothing clever in trying to look macho, a back brace can save you a lot of back pain and medical bills in the future.

Take a walk around any garden supplier and you are sure to spot some of the other organic gardening supplies that you have forgotten about.There are certain organic products that can be added to your compost bin to help speed up the composting process and what about a watering system.

No matter what type of garden you are planning a good water system is an essential part of the equation to turning your garden plot into a fertile luxurious haven where you can relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Most properties will have an outside water facet where you can attache a length of hose but you will need to ad some sort of sprinkler to you gardening supply list. If you can afford to have a permanent system built into your organic garden that's great but if that isn't practical you will have to settle for the type of sprinklers that screw onto the end of your hose pipe and remove them when you want to hand water a particular spot in your garden.

As you begin to do more and more gardening your list of organic gardening supplies will grow and over time you will come to have favorite tools just like with any other hobby.

To be a successful Organic gardener you should learn from nature, take a walk in any forest or wooded area and observe how fallen branches leaves and a multitude of plant life forms decompose to create nutrients that are put back into the soil. Insects eat other insects, birds eat insects, and grubs. The whole system survives without any form of chemical intervention. keep this in mind when your planning your organic garden.


Quick Tip #2

At the start of each organic gardening year take some time to sharpen your tools. You will work much more efficiently with a sharp spade than with a dull one. Check the wheel or wheels on your wheelbarrow make sure they are not going to let you down when it's full of heavy soil or potting plants.

If your plants are being eaten away by aphids, use a solution of mild washing up liquid and water in a clean plastic spray bottle. Give the bugs a liberal spraying, leave for a few minutes then spray off the dead aphids with clean tepid water. Repeat this every ten day's or so until you are aphid free.
